ReplyDeleteI see media pushing our culture towards one way of thinking at any point in time. Advertisements on TV seem to become more "heart-felt" around the holidays. Graphics on TV seem to tell our culture what to think and when to think it when they want you to. Like stated before, they make you sad around the holidays and happy around other events. Our culture has changed in many ways, but a way it has changed majorly is around the elections for positions, such as president or Supreme Court judge. The media, and in turn graphics, become a fight between "who can make the other person look worse?" I think some examples of great graphics were the arliest exaple, such as Duck Hunt, famous game, classic Looney Tunes, cartoons that most of us watched as little kids, and Toy Story, loved children's movie.
ReplyDelete-Graphic design has become a major part of our lives and culture, and is used all the time to change our culture and ourselves. Many trends and new cultural ideas are started by graphic designs and graphics designers, and these trends are sometimes adopted to become a major part of our culture today. Many companies are using better and better graphic designs to influence people to do something or to buy something, many modern artists use graphic designing to show their work, and the internet itself has become a hive of graphic designs.
ReplyDelete-Our society has become much more visually-oriented, due to better and better graphic designs and graphic designing techniques. Advertisements are extremely vivid, pictures of objects are extremely detailed and intense, and both of these things do not have as much detail put into the worded description of the objects.
-Some great graphic design examples would consist of things online, because they are more accessable to the general populace than most other areas of advertisements. When graphic designs are developed to aid someones cause or to express someones opinion, they are generally quite good, as the people want to get their point across.
-“A picture is worth a thousand words” is generally considered to say that pictures can describe something accurately with just one picture, that a thousand words would need to be used to describe the same thing. For example, when/if you tried to describe the Auoura Borealis to someone who has not seen it, it would be much more difficult to describe it to them in words than just showing them a picture.
Graphic design is used in many areas of media today for example every movie you watch has graphic design being used in them. Graphic design is used in areculture because we live around many things that involve graphic design. I do see them using graphic design to drive changes in our culture because builboard and signs for building motivate you to go to there store by the way the sign looks. Good examples of graphic design is transformers the movies. A pictur is a thousand words mean what the picture shows is what your gonna think.
ReplyDeleteI think graphic design does affect our media today greatly. People say pictures are worth a thousand words meaning that one picture can mean so many things, and without people being able to design these amazing pictures and put them all over the web their message would not be spread. Graphic design is in almost any picture you see today. The degree of expertise these people have in making these pictures makes them more vivid and mean much more than if someone was trying to draw them by hand. Also, graphic design is used in movies, and video games that everybody uses on a daily basis. Even if you don’t feel like it the movies or games affect the person you are which means that the designs do affect our culture today. One example of great graphic design that sticks out to me is the movie transformers, the graphics in that movie make me feel like I am in the movie with the characters.
ReplyDeleteOur society has changed a lot since the days before the newspaper was available for all, and because of how much people are informed now compared to how isolated people used to be on the world, it's easy to compare the differences. One just has to look at Twitter, Facebook, Livejournal, or any other type of social networking cites to get an idea of how much everyone is involved in everyone else’s business. Information travels extremely fast now a days, and it's nearly impossible to keep something a secret for long.
ReplyDeleteThe media is extremely important because that's how most of the public gets its information and bases their opinions on what is shown. In something like the news (CNN), the way the reporter presents the topic could influence how it's carried out and responded to. Nearly everything today is based on what we've heard from other people and sources. I don't believe that anyone could deny the powerful influence the mass media has on the public in general.
Graphic design is almost as important as what it's presenting. If something looks pretty or shows imagination, then people are more likely to be interested in whatever they're presenting. If something looks like it was drawn/designed by a elementary school student, and shows no talent, then people are less likely to be impressed by whatever is shown and will be less interested in whatever it is. A picture can tell you much more than a word can. In general, most words has only one or two set meanings, maybe a few more; but a picture represents so much more than one word or sentence ever could. Because everyone sees everything differently, a picture of something even as simple as a single flower can have hundreds of different meanings to hundreds of different people.
I personally think the media is a huge driving force in the United States. With simple things like celebrity gossip all the way up to presidential elections, the media is very influential. I think graphic design is very important and persuading. If you look at a presidential election posters and one is a plain white piece of paper that says “vote for What’s his name” while the other one is colorful and symbolic, it will entice you more and you’ll be more likely to actually check that one out. Graphic design could be used as a mean to drive change if it’s on a big enough level, like the presidency example I gave, I think it depends on what type of change and the people that are trying to be reached by it. I’d say the biggest change made by media in today’s life is what is considered “taboo” or “off limits” to talk about. In the 1920’s if someone released a magazine or newspaper with a headline about sex scandal, drugs, and a picture of a half naked person, it would have created a lot of controversy and trouble. But now we go to local stores and there are half naked celebrities on the front and stories of their affairs inside, and along with them being there, people are more open to talking about it. I feel like magazine covers are a great form of graphic design, when you go to the store and wait in line to checkout if that magazine can grab your attention you might look through it and get the information they are trying to relay. A picture is worth a thousand words, too me it means that looking at a picture you can find a meaning or story behind that would take a thousand words to fully explain as well. Even at that the words won’t fully convey the emotion behind a picture. You can always look back at a picture and find something you missed before or it can speak to you in a different way.
ReplyDeleteGraphic Design impacts my life and the media today by helping to simplify information and making it easier to understand. Everybody uses graphic design or has at least seen the use of graphic design. I see the media driving our culture today by sending out public information to everybody instead of just having it between certain groups. Our society has changed due to media by us becoming more social. I feel that the use of graphic design has convinced people to get out in public. What I feel is a great example of Graphic Design is a billboard, because everybody goes out sometime during the day and the billboard is so large that its extremely hard to miss. 'A picture is worth a thousand words' means that with a picture comes memories. Multiple memories can come out of one picture. So the thousand words means a thousand memories.
ReplyDeleteDefinitly! Graphic design has become a part of our culture and in some cases driving it. In my personal life, graphic design is quite fun. I am a redditor (don’t worry if you don’t know what that means) and I spend much of my time looking at what other people have made. Personally I think everyone has seen a lot of graphic designs they just don’t recognize them.
ReplyDeleteMostly in advertisements, graphic designs can be persuasive ot at least informal to the person observing them. Many people expect to see colorful and attractive ads in magazines. Graphic design now is a nessesity of magazines rather than a luxury.
I really love infographics, so much information put into a really understandable manner. Other than that you can make really interesting art by use of the computer.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” I think it means that a picture is worth all the descriptive words that one would use to describe it in a scentence.
Graphic design is everywhere. In television and movies, ads and billboards, and all sorts of other things. Especially in advertisements, graphic design is used directly to change our culture. Graphic design can influence our decisions, and change how we think or feel about a certain thing. For example, I think that people feel differently about smoking because of no smoking ads. I also think that one of the best examples of great graphic design are the designs for ads on the sides of buses. They are very attention catching, and are seen by tons of people every day.
ReplyDeleteA picture is worth a thousand words means that a picture can mean a thousand things. For example, when you look at a billboard, the pictures or designs on it can portray a thousand ideas to the veiwer, and affect their decisions.
Media is driving our culture by movies, TV shows, internet browsing. I see the use of graphic design as means to drive changes in our culture from ads influencing people to not/do certain things or a product to purchase."A picture is worth a thousand words" is a metaphor used to express how invaluable pictures are, whether that be a picture of a family/relative or a advertisement.
ReplyDeleteGraphic design is a major part of our culture. It can be expressed in many ways and all over the world. I see that it could drive media culture by influencing people to want or to do something. It is use very widely in commercials and advertising. Our culture has changed a lot through the years. Media and advertising have became very known with the use of graphic design with the making of logos, posters, and flyers to promote products and messages to the public. Great graphic design is sometimes the little things no one notices graphic designers are used for. For exapmle the small design work on tissue boxes, gum packages, little logos on flyers, menu artwork, and website logos. Many things such as those don't get noticed very often as artwork although we see it almost each day. I define the term 'a picture is worth a thousand words' as saying everyone has a different perspective, that we each see the world diffently.
ReplyDeleteI think graphic design will make the world a funner place. it is the art of visual ideas. Things would be SO boring and plain if the world didn't have graphic designers. Also, graphic design helps advertisment. If there were no advertisment, then there would be hardly any buisness. I think the billboards that you pass by on main roads are great examples of graphic design. The ones that have a cute saying and show pictures of people with smiles on their faces; with their friends or family. It makes the world happier and makes people realize what they need to be thankful for.
ReplyDelete•"a picture is worth a thousand words" means a picture tells a story just as well as a large amount of descriptive text. If you snap a picture, you can look at it and see or make a guess of what was happening in that picture, what the setting and weather was like, and or any people or objects in it. Same as in a text, but instead of looking at it, you describe it.
Graphic design is effecting our culture greatly. The images people make can push someone to think or act a certain way or to buy a certain thing. New ideas and trends are made all the time with the designs, ect. that we see everyday. The internet is now a huge part of graphic design and people expressing their ideas. The advertisments on t.v. have because greatly more animated and can help you make a decision on what you want based on the design. Soceity has changed and is more visual on what they want to see. If it looks good then people think it will tend to be good.People play video games that are made up greatly from graphic designers ect. The internet is full of people expressing their ideas to the general public. “A picture is worth a thousand words” is used to say in my opinion that you can descibe something far greater just showing a picture then trying to use words.
ReplyDeleteI think that most people who are not familiar with graphic design do not recognize how much of an impact it has and how much exposer the average person has. It’s more than just bilboards, graphic design can be anything from a design printed on a shirt to the labels on food. It’s influenced my life majorly because I have decided that I would like to pursue a carrer in graphic design. The media is important in our world today and it is using graphic design to influence people. Politics create campains with posters, signs, bumbper stickers, buttons, and so much more. All of this spreads their name and their platform/beliefs. This is a good example of how the media can drive our culture today. I think that as graphic standards are raised, the media will continue to have a growing influnce on people. Well designed graphics can have a very strong impact on people. In addition, as the world become more computerized this opens up new oppertunities. Webpages, phone apps, and many more new fields are increasing in populatiry. “A picture is worth a thousand words” is a very famous quote and a very meaningful one too. My definition of the phrase is that everyone has a different interatation of the things we see because there are so many parts that make them up. Each individual sees a different part of the image. For example, say that there is a photo of a tree. Some may notice the tree, while others pay more attention to the background.
ReplyDeleteGraphic design affects our media in a huge way. Everything we see in magazines and on websites is normally a result of graphic design. We base a lot of what we do, how we look, and what we buy based on graphic design. Magazines play a huge role in what teenagers find "cool" or socially acceptable. Because of this, graphic design drives a lot of the behavior of teenagers.
ReplyDeleteGraphic design on TV can influence our political views, how we act, and also how many products we consume. When we see certain commercials on TV, especially during election time, it is easy to be influenced on what candidate we will pick. Some commercials involving graphic design really help sell a product. All of this can really support the truth that Graphic Design has a huge effect on our media and culture today.
A picture is worth a thousand words really means that one picture can give a glimpse into something. It can explain without words. It can even give an opinion of something or someone.
Graphic design impacts my life today by that it everywhere, on billboards, in tv shows, video games, advertisements, etc. Graphic Design affects alot of what we do, people tend to pay their main attention to the design of things the better the design the more attention it gets. The graphic design of anything can affects someones opinion and what they want to do. "A picture is worth a thousand words" is saying no amount of words could describe something as much as what a picture can capture. An example some text could be describing the main event of a picture but its not catching all the details. In a picture you can study everything thats going on, every little detail.
ReplyDeleteGraphic design is used in everyday life such as everything online. Posters, newspapers, books everything that you see have once been a part of graphic design. How do you think they build buildings? They have to create the design first. Without graphic design our world would be very dull and boring. I feel that billboards and online media is a great source of graphic design everything online everyone sees, and how boring would it be if you were driving on the express way and had nothing but trees and cars to look at. Everyone looks forward to playing games that deal with license plates and signs and billboards without graphic design we would have nothing. “A picture is worth a thousand words” I see this quote as something you should live by. When you look at a picture you should say 1000 words about the picture. Whether it is good or bad. Each picture tells a story you just have to figure it out.
